I still have the useless second battery. Pure junk. It didn't work. The second one arrived so quickly there is no way they could have inspected or tested it. I sent it back, seller seemed cooperative. First the first battery sent to me wouldn't charge. I told them don't hurry make sure the second one takes a charge. They have never made good.
This thing has powered my fairly powerful desktop PC, two LCD displays, wireless router, and a second lower-power PC (my home storage server in the closet) during an outage, long enough for me to shut down normally on both machines. I know others have experiences longevity issues, but in my experience this appears to be a very well-built and trustworthy UPS.Note that the plug configuration on this UPS is well thought out, with three normally spaced plugs per side (one side being surge-protection only, the other being battery backup), and one plug with more space per side for use with a brick or other, larger plug. This has been a very solid and reliable UPS for me, despite the fact that I've almost certainly overworked it in terms of what's plugged in to the battery-backup portion of the device. Given the listed ratings for this device, I'm impressed.I've also had the device for a couple years now, and my periodic tests of the battery indicate that it's still working well.
I have my tower, LCD monitor, wireless router, modem, and a cordless phone connected to it. I bought this mainly because sometimes the power will just go out for a second or a few minutes. Works great so far, definitely recommended if you need it for similar needs.
You will never know it's there aside from the tray icon(unless of course you have a power-outage). The software is a monitoring program that will enable your PC to react appropriately to power conditions. 5 stars. I live in an area where 1 minute blackouts are not uncommon, so I was searching for something that would protect my investment. This unit does it's job effectively for people that need something that will prevent everyday surges and improper shutdowns due to power loss. I have it supporting mainly a 2001 Dell PC with Windows XP Home and have never had any problems in 2 years of ownership, but it has saved my PC many times from abnormal shutdowns.Setup is simple - just plug it in, install the software, and connect to a USB port. I noticed no change in performance of my PC once it was installed. If you need something that will give you a significant amount of usage time when the power goes out, you should probably go for a more expensive option - but for my purposes - something that will protect my PC from occasional blackouts - this does very admirably.
Now it seems hard to get one for that price. I paid less than eighty bucks for two. You can recycle them directly with APC when the battery does go bad. I bought 2 of these a while back in Oct. 2007 directly through amazon and it was much cheaper then. They seem to be working fine.
